Marie Yvonne Laur also known as Yo Laur (1879-1943, French) was known for her excellent draftsmanship and genre paintings especially of cats and kittens. Her style is similar to other 19th century artists such as Henriette Ronner-Knip, Eugene Lambert, Leon Charles Huber, Jules Gustav LeRoy, Alfred-Arthur Brunel de Neuville as well as many others.
Both cats and dogs became popular pets during the 19th century leading to their portrayals in paintings which the middle classes readily bought.
In 1908, Laur became a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais.
Unfortunately, not much more is known about her, but her art works are still readily available on various auction sites.
