Bessie Bamber (1870-?, British) was a prolific painter of cats and kittens and sometimes dogs and puppies. Most of her works are dated from 1900-1910, seemingly her most active period. Preferring to work from stuffed animals instead of real ones, most of her paintings include china, flowers and baskets surrounded by mischievous cats and kittens. Many of her paintings are on opaline glass and porcelain and simply signed with her initials BB. One long composition of a line of kittens was painted on a mahogany panel. Even though little is known about her, her paintings are popular and are still sold today for thousands of pounds at auction.
