Peter Harskamp (1951-present, Dutch) is a contemporary painter and sculptor. Harskamp attended the Academy for Visual Arts in Rotterdam from 1969-1973, and gave his first solo exhibition in 1975. Peter Harskamp is a popular artist with his works exhibited worldwide and included in many private collections.
Harskamp’s depictions of cats almost always include a woman or man. His human figures are geometric, strong, heavy and two dimensional, while the cats are more refined, thin and lithe. Both humans and cats are caught in positions of relaxation, day dreaming and bathing. There is something simple and calming about his earth toned paintings and sculptures.
