Lesley Anne Ivory (1934-present, British) is a prolific painter of cats in highly decorative and detailed settings which are influenced by her love of Indian and Persian designs.
Ivory attended St. Alban’s School of Art and specialized in fabric design and wood engraving. She became popular in the 1980’s after publishing her “Ivory Cats”. Her works are inspired by her cats Agneatha, Dandelion, Muppet, Twiglet, Spiro, Motley, Mintaka and Amulet. She has participated in exhibitions and three one-woman shows in London as well as yearly exhibits at Chris Beetles Art Gallery in London. Not limited to the UK, she has traveled to the US and has exhibited in New York. In addition, she has illustrated over 40 children’s books.
Ivory has an extensive range of merchandise based on her Ivory Cats that is sold all over the world. Her works can be found on her website.
As a cat lover she supports the Cat Action Trust and contributes to the World Wildlife Fund. Ivory says, “cats are handsome, consoling, and magical.”
