HISTORY

The Arabian Mau is a short haired desert cat native to the Arabian Peninsula, found in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates thought to have evolved from the African Wildcat.  Classified as a natural breed, the Arabian Mau is recognized as a formal breed by the World Cat Federation as well as the Emirates Feline Federation. Since January 1, 2009, they can participate in international cat shows.

Arabian Maus are mostly street cats and are very well adapted to the extremely hot temperatures found in the Gulf countries. This cat has been present in the area for over 1,000 years.

CHARACTERISTICS

WEIGHT RANGE                9-16 pounds
EYE COLOR Primarily green, but any color
COAT Silky, glossy and short with no undercoat. Tendency to shed is low.
COAT COLORS

Coat colors found the most frequently are: tabby, orange, white, black and calico.

OVERALL APPEARANCEArabian Maus have a lean muscular look but are not necessarily slender and have long legs with oval paws. The head is longer than it is broad.  The nose is curved when viewed in profile. Eyes are oval, large and slightly slanted. Ears may seem  overly large.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

 The Arabian Mau is essentially a desert cat that craves warmth. They are athletic and active. They can be territorial and tend to be highly vocal and intelligent. Arabian Maus are healthy with no known health issues. Life expectancy is from 9-17 years.
