He has gone on to publish more than 28 more books and has held many one man exhibitions.Sir Roy Strong in a foreword to one of Martin’s books wrote ” I can think of few other contemporary painters who are able so powerfully to distill the essence of cat on to canvas or paper”.
Leman’s work is reminiscent of the style of Henri Rousseau with its bold colors and patterns. Many of his cat subjects are painted with a beach-side background perhaps representing his love of the sea. His most recent book is, Martin Leman, A World of His Own. He continues to work and live in Islington, London with his wife Jill, who is also an artist.
